Motorcyclist Behaviour Assessments

NearMiss was used by the Victorian Department of Transport to assess the effectiveness of innovative line markings. These markings were designed to reduce a motorcycle rider’s speed on approach to a curve, and encourage selection of the safest riding path through that curve.

Deployment was carried out in Victoria in the shortest time frame possible, to inform future policy and designs.

Rapid confirmation of effectiveness was achieved through video analytics collecting surrogate safety measures, rather than traditional analytics of historical crash data.

Once the effectiveness in Victoria was confirmed, treatments were then rolled out across Queensland, South Australia, and more extensively in Victoria.
