The project aimed to assess innovative road line marking and tactile ground indicator solutions to determine suitability for expanded investment and broader deployment. Specifically, the focus was on two key innovations: photoluminescent line markings and LED tactical ground surface indicator pavers.
These innovative treatments were strategically deployed at high-risk locations across Victoria for evaluation. Real Time Traffic utilised our NearMiss technology to conduct a comprehensive assessment of these road treatment solutions. The objective was to determine the effectiveness of these treatments in enhancing road safety within these designated areas.
The innovative treatments showed a positive effect on the safety and amenity for cyclists and pedestrians on shared paths, as indicated by user lane positioning data and community survey responses. However, its effectiveness on rural road safety was mixed.
